Knee Pain

Physical therapy for knee pain at Total Body Rehab — evaluation-driven, one-on-one care in Trenton, serving all of Downriver.

The knee is caught between the hip and the foot — and it often pays for problems at either. Kneecap tracking issues, tendon overload, meniscus irritation, and arthritis are the usual suspects behind knee pain.

Strengthening — especially of the quadriceps and hips — is the single most evidence-supported treatment for most knee pain, and it's the backbone of our approach.

Common signs & symptoms

How physical therapy helps

After identifying the pain source, we build a progressive strengthening program for the quads, hips, and calves, restore full knee motion with manual therapy, and retrain movement patterns — how you squat, land, and climb stairs. Load is dosed so the knee adapts rather than flares, and you return to the activities you care about.

Frequently asked questions

Is it bad that my knee clicks?

Painless clicking is common and usually harmless. Clicking with pain, swelling, or catching deserves evaluation — that combination can point to the meniscus or cartilage.

Should I stop running with knee pain?

Rarely completely. We usually adjust volume, cadence, and strength work and keep you running while the knee adapts — total rest tends to weaken the very structures the knee needs.

Do knee braces help?

For short-term confidence or specific instability, they have a place. Long term, strength is the real brace — and it's the one that works without being worn.
